Hello there fellow bloggers! My name is Kim Philipp and I am a senior this year at Iowa. Like most of you I am studying Secondary English Education and hope to be a successful high school English teacher one day. When I was younger and entering preschool at the age of three I was pumped! I couldn't wait to be a "big kid" in a classroom with fellow peers and a teacher. I loved having my parents read stories to me and as I got older I read on my own quite often as I still do today. With reading came writing and when I was in 3rd grade I found my creative side, bringing it to life in all of my works as much as I could. Due to the fact that reading and writing became passions of mine at a young age I would have to say that is probably what gave me the first nudge toward the teaching profession. I have found that writing is sometimes the little type of therapy I need to release stress and expressing myself on paper usually comes out a lot stronger then speaking at times. Writing is that little escape from reality and in writing anything can happen. It is the little ideas like that which I have gathered overtime and eventually hope to bring to my classroom one day.
I feel very fortunate and blessed to be a student here at the university. As sad as I am about being in my last year I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and have had the best experience I could have asked for (sounds cheesy but it is very true!). I committed in January during my senior year of high school and remember filling out the online form for a random roommate. I had heard more horror then happy tales about rooming with a random person but I wanted to take that leap and experience the entire college, random roommate situation. It was worth it because to this day my random roommate Allie and I are best friends and have lived together every year. She is the one next to me in my profile picture on the left hand side down near the bottom of my page. My experience at Iowa began with a good friend and the ride has been awesome. I have always tried to attend many events, get/stay involved, and make the most of my time here because as we all know, you are only in college once!
And just for kicks:
1. I LOVE Iowa football
2. Fall is my favorite season
3. I eat hot sauce on everything (literally)
4. Penguins are my favorite animals
5.I criticize myself on anything and everything I write a.k.a papers always take me three hours longer than they should
